Witch's represent many things depending on the culture and time period you look at. During the Burning Times of Europe witch's were seen as evil doers who made pacts with Satan. In times prior to the Catholic Church and the matriarchical society of today witches were the midwives, herbalist, wise women and leaders. Now in the New Age movement and during the Reclaiming movement of Starhawk for the word "Witch" a witch represent the people of change and the positive force of the world even though superstitions and negative connotations still hover over them.
