I am not sure what you mean by reconfigured. If the cruise is not working the first things to check are the vacuum supply to the servo and to check the pcm for trouble codes.
There could be a loose connection or a vacuum issue. Some Grand Am models use a vacuum to operate the system. Make sure that there are no vacuum leaks.

I believe there is no fuse just for the cruise control. The cruise control circuit is covered by the PCM. However, I would check the switches on the brake pedal.
