Typically, I feel like two people who have just had a big fight need some time to cool down and think things over. You should never be too proud to apologize, and neither should he. Be sure to truly forgive him, and don't hold a grudge. Holding a grudge can make you bitter for years to come. If it's been a few hours or longer, go ahead and take the initiative and send him a text or call him to talk it out. Chances are you've both cooled down. If the fight was over something important, take into consideration the fact that maybe the relationship isn't worth saving. Also, make sure fights never turn physical. This is a big no-no, and means you need to get out, now.

If he hit you keep going and don't look back. No matter how mad he was he should NEVER hit you. If he just argued with you and it was a shouting match then both of you need to grow up and start communicating or your relationship will never make it. If he has pushed, hit, shoved, slapped or punched you that is physical abuse and it will just get worse.
