Meditation or prayer can help, and relaxation exercises. For instance, tense and then relax all the muscles that you can in your head, and then progress down the body to your feet.

Another thing that can help is talking out the issues you are worried about with a friend, family member, or counselor.

If the problem persists for a very long time, you might want to see a counselor anyway to talk about ways to reduce your anxiety.

If it's just suddenly started, chances are you have a specific worry. Talk to someone about it, don't let it fester. If it's just anything and everything and your mind is racing, we've all been there, so first of all don't worry about the worrying.

Second, take the obvious steps which we all forget. Make sure there are no light sources in your room, switch everything off so there are no stand-by lights. Don't use electronic devices in the late evening; I find I can't sleep if I use the computer within an hour of bedtime, and there's more and more research to support this.

Take some physical exercise every day, it's easier to sleep if your body is tired. Many people find meditative and breathing exercises help, there's plenty of information about them out there and they don't have to be complicated.
