Tell him, when he holds your hand that you like his firm grip. This might seem silly. But then next you can tell him that you like the way he leads you accross the street (I know that many guys don't do that). But you must find something specific about him that you can praise. You have to make your own judgment about his responses. But, if you pay him a specific compliment, you will not lay yourself open to a rejection.
