Also, remember there are at least TWO people present- you do not have to talk yourself all the time. Try asking the other person a question that will prompt them to talk. Maybe something like "I really like chocolate ice cream- what do you like?" Follow by an attentive "Uh huh" or "yeah" or "Had not thought about that" or "Have you always liked that?". Get THEM to talk- and they will think YOU are a brilliant conversationalist.
