You have a problem with the charging system. More than likely the alternator has failed.
Bad ignition switch?
Yes , the socket is live so you can use the cigarette lighter without starting the Explorer or turning the ignition key to the accessory position
Typically the light will remain on if the fluid is low, or maybe the ebrake just pulled just enough that it is on..... or the switch that is triggered by the handle is faulty
bad ground somewhere or crossed wires. only way to find out is to go to a shop and have them check all of the wiring.
If lighting your own cigarette: 1) hold filter of cigarette in mouth 2) hold lighter in hand A (left or right, arbitrarily) 3) if there is a breeze, you may need to hold up hand B as a partial wind break while lighting the cigarette 4) light end of cigarette with lighter while gently inhaling, pulling air into the cigarette to enhance combustion of the tobacco and paper...so that the cigarette can stay lit 5) remove lighter from cigarette, as well as hand B, and continue smoking Or put another way: You would put the cigarette in your mouth, light your lighter or strike a match, hold the flame to the end of the cigarette, and inhale until it is lit. Then you put out the flame you used to light it.
I have a 1998 Mazda Protege that kept throwing the belt. 5 times in 1 month. Come to find out the pulley on the air conditioner compressor would stop working sometimes. We found this out only by experimenting because I had had it to the shop several times to make sure it was lined up correctly. My brother suggested bypassing the air unit to see if the belt would stay. 2 years, and the same belt is still on.
AFAIK that means a malfunction in the Electronic Brake Distribution System. It may be a temporary glitch, take the car to a dealer and ask them to scan the error codes to diagnose the problem.
