You do nothing. Don't make a big deal of it. My guess is he thinks this is personal and just between the two of you. Sounds like he is sincere and real. Don't put him in situations where he needs to do this. You could make a special sign or word that means the same thing that is used between the two of you if you need this. It is better he tells you when you are alone because that means he means it.

Humans are not born afraid.. we see things and how people react and we become afraid. For example with bugs how some people are scared of them and some arent that is from when they were a kid and all the people they were around acted afraid so you wont know why your afraid.. you just are.
