- Perhaps you are shy and because you have invited them over you are nervous about how to keep them entertained. Loosen up a little and perhaps say, 'Hey, I'm over here!' If they ask what you mean then tell them how you feel without whining. Don't be afraid to jump into their conversations. It sounds like you are sitting back and second guessing your friends and that leads to silence from you so they are talking amongst themselves.
