military reserve, leave to attend a sick partner or child, and religious discrimination
in the workplace.
The common pattern among these laws is the legal recognition that the
employee is an entity completely different from a piece of the machinery that
keeps the business running.
Coincidentally, that simple fact is one of the fundamental bases of the whole
Sabbath concept. Another way to say it is: "People don't own people."
