Facts in NYSIf you are in New York you pack your stuff and leave. Your parents can call the police ,who will try to talk you into going home. At 17 you are not a minor! You can make your own decisions where you will live. However, once a police report is filed and the police have spoken to you, it is now a matter of record that you moved out willingly agaists your parents wishes and you refuse to go home. You are now on your own! YOU and YOU alone are responsible for any bills you may inccur. For example in most cases you are no longer covered by your parents medical insurance if you do not live in their home, therefore if you get sick and see a doctor you are responsible for paying the bill. Contrary to popular belief your parents will not be charged with child support as long as they are willing to let you come home. You also cannot become a public charge, such as welfare, if your parents are willing to let you come home. With all that said, I don't recommend you leave home until you are sure you have a safe place to go and you can fully support yourself.
