Take a look through the engine oil filler opening, is the camshaft turning while the engine cranks? I hope it's cheap and easy to fix.

under the engine in the front. you have to lift the car AND then remove the plastic guard in order to see the oil filter.
First step is to disconnect the battery terminals remove the plastic cover on the top of the engine Next remove the Air filter assembly from the throttle body there are 6 10mm screws holding down the intake manifold on the top of the engine. Lift the intake manifold up and out after clearing all hoses. the starter is located on the transmission side of the V portion on the engine block. Yes I know its a hard job but total time was 2 hrs to replace the starter Do everything in rev order and your all set.
The starter is located under the intake manifold. You will need to remove the EGR tube and the intake air tube from the throttle body. Remove the bolts around the perimeter of the intake manifold and from the passenger side of the engine compartment you can lift the intake up far enough to gain access to the starter. Remember to disconnect the battery negative terminal first. I have used a bungee cord to hang the intake in the air while working on the starter. Remove the two wires leading to the starter and then the two 13mm bolts securing the starter to the engine block. Pull the starter out from under the intake manifold and install the new starter in the reverse order. The intake manifold gaskets are reusable.
Starter replacement is fairly simple. Located on pasenger side, access from under the car. Disconnect battery first, disconnect wiring to starter, then remove 2 bolts holding starter to engine case. Install new starter, reassemble in reverese order.
