It is hard not to hate especially when you been harassed or bullied because of who you are. Rising above this means that you don't act like the people who have harassed or bullied you. When people treat you or someone you love cruelly, it is very hard to not hate them. Hate is a complete waste of time. A natural reaction would be to seek vengeance. Vengeance is hate just in a different form. Getting even with those who have hurt you does not lessen the pain you have been subjected to.
So much energy and time goes into hating others. There are better ways to use your time and energy than hating them back. People who hate are emotionally immature. They are not adults in their behavior. In the end "Rising above the hate" means that you are better than those who hate. Also "rising above the hate" can be interpreted as not getting in the emotional gutter that haters live.
