Black, the absence of all color, mixed with white, the presence of all color, makes grey.
Mixing the three primaries or the three secondaries makes variations of grey.
Also, both primaries and secondaries have opposites. Opposites make variations of grey. Yellow's opposite is purple, red's opposite is green, and blue's opposite is orange.

If you want to make a grey.... mix ultrimarine blue (70%) and perssian blue (30%).. this gives you a balanced blue.. then mix this with an equal amount of burnt umber. you will then get a black colour.. if it seems brown.. add more blue.. if it seems blue.. ad more brown... then add tints of white to get a dark grey to a light grey.
If you mix light blue and light grey you will get a darker, duller version of the blue. Of course this depends on how much of each color you mix together. For example, if you mix equal parts of both colors you will more than likely get a muddy, grayish, non-color; but if you mix just a dab of grey into the blue, you could come up with a soft blue.

Use black paint on its own, otherwise you will need to keep adding black until the grey becomes black enough. Adding a very dark blue to grey will make a black, but it won't be a proper black, more like a bluey black.
