You ARE allowed to quit your job and still receive unemployment compensation when it is done for good reason. Examples are unsafe and otherwise job related situations harmful to the worker (toxic environment, harassment, abusive actions against the employee, etc.). Each state has their own guidelines as to what are good reasons. Others include: domestic abuse situations, following a transferred spouse in the military or, in some cases, a spouse that has been relocated. Again, the state will investigate the reasons and will determine if full or partial benefits are in order. The worker is not an indentured servant subject to the whims of an employer. Document your case with witnesses, paper trail, etc. that the investigator can check out.

You can't say anything to get unemployment. Certain conditions have to be satisfied like you were laid off or wrongfully terminated.

In the United States if you quit a job, you typically cannot collect unemployment. If you left for "good cause" you may be able to collect, but this depends on your individual state agency.
