If he was close enough to your son, he should want a relationship with him regardless. Do not use that to try to get him back, just let it go. If its meant its meant. If this man is too selfish to not want to see your son anymore, consider getting him involved in big brothers/big sisters, or find a male role model who is a relative. Be careful of your sons feelings too, let him know its not his fault and that this guy just can't deal with the situation currently. You shouldn't have to say anything to this ex, he should know your son would want to see him, but maybe clarify that it is your son and not you that needs the relationship now. Let him come back if he isn't dangerous. Think of your child, he needs both parents. You can work on the relationship in the mean time, but stay together for your son's sake. I cannot tell if he wants to see his son or if he wants to be back into a relationship with you. The issue is that you don't want him to yank the emotions of the child around, so take it slowly. Think about what sort of committments you want from him--make it too easy and he will not value the easy return to what was.
