When it happened, it was a frightening experience. For some, the idea that this was phase one of World War III seemed quite likely and a watchful eye was on the sky for incoming Tupolev or Ilyushin bombers, Cuban rockets, rouge nation buzz bombs and other ominous threats.
It was also an International Tragedy with a broken diplomacy and everyone a suspect. CIA, FBI, LBJ, DOD and others were all suspects. The lone gunman theory may have been contrived, but it worked. The Magic bullet theory was accepted by everyone except balistic experts and conspiracy theoorists. Camelot, and the American Dream was lost forever.
