All deductions having been made, democracy has done less harm, and more good, than any other form of government. It gave to human existence a zest and camaraderie that outweighed its pitfalls and defects. It gave to thought and science and enterprise the freedom essential to their operation and growth. It broke down the walls of privilege and class, and in each generation it raised up ability from every rank and place

a democracy is a goverment policy which allows its countries peple to choose who to lead them. Opposite of this is a Dictatorship where a countrys people are oppressed and can't protest e.g. Libya or nazi Germany. the nazis were a dictatorship-ww2
The exact meaning of the term "democracy" must be gained from the context in which it is used. When used with reference to a government which is acknowledged to be a republic, it obviously does not refer in practice that it is of the people by the people and for the people in theoretical sense . The democracy is the very foundation of our logical settlement of thoughts wherever it is applied be it the governance of a nation or a corporate or a society it is only a well accepted proposition ,even if we generally feel cynical or critical about it . Just think about an alternative you can hardly find an equitable substitute. DEMOCRACY is only acceptable form of peaceful governance ,the question is only about it's purity we are always concerned with not about it's philosophy , but it's practical application.
