Thank God for your salvation through your faith (which didn't come from you anyway: it is actually God's faith in the first place-see Verse 2), so hang in there no matter what.
1Pe 1:2 You were chosen according to the purpose of God the Father and were made a holy people by his Spirit, to obey Jesus Christ and be purified by his blood. May grace and peace be yours in full measure.
1Pe 1:3 Let us give thanks to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! Because of his great mercy he gave us new life by raising Jesus Christ from death. This fills us with a living hope,
1Pe 1:4 and so we look forward to possessing the rich blessings that God keeps for his people. He keeps them for you in heaven, where they cannot decay or spoil or fade away.
1Pe 1:5 They are for you, who through faith are kept safe by God's power for the salvation which is ready to be revealed at the end of time.
1Pe 1:6 Be glad about this, even though it may now be necessary for you to be sad for a while because of the many kinds of trials you suffer.
1Pe 1:7 Their purpose is to prove that your faith is genuine. Even gold, which can be destroyed, is tested by fire; and so your faith, which is much more precious than gold, must also be tested, so that it may endure. Then you will receive praise and glory and honor on the Day when Jesus Christ is revealed.
1Pe 1:8 You love him, although you have not seen him, and you believe in him, although you do not now see him. So you rejoice with a great and glorious joy which words cannot express,
1Pe 1:9 because you are receiving the salvation of your souls, which is the purpose of your faith in him.
1 Peter 3 verse 7 is the instructions given to husbands. They are directed to honor their wives and to see them as a fellow heir.
The right attitude of Christians to each other and those who oppose them is also explained.
This entire letter from Peter to the Christian congregation 'scattered about'(1Peter1:1) is encouraging them (and us) to keep praising God (1Peter1:3-5) and enduring trials(6-9), always being obedient to the Christ (13-16) out of a clean heart(2:1-3, 11&12). The whole letter is instruction to the various parts of the Christian congregation.
Wives(1 Pet 3:1-6), husbands(3:7), all Christians (1Peter3:8&9) must work at 'showing fellow feeling for each other, having brotherly affection, tender compassion, with a humble mind, not 'paying back injury for injury', but loving eachother.
LOVE... is what identifies the Christian congregation. (John 13:35)(1 Corinthians 13:1-13)
The Jewish Passover tradition was to sacrifice a lamb which had to have no blemish and no broken bone. 1 Peter 1:19 is probably based on the passion scene in John's Gospel. In that gospel, Jesus is crucified on the day before the Passover feast, and it draws many parallels between the sacrifice of Jesus and the sacrifice of the Passover lamb. It is told that the soldiers broke the legs of the other two crucified men, but seeing Jesus already dead did not break his legs.
Peter says many things in these few verses; but the meaning is easy - Peter is exhorting the church to worship God and to thank him for his many spiritual blessings, despite our temporary 'heaviness through many temptations', which, if we endure will perfect our faith in Jesus Christ.
Believers are urged to suffer without retaliating. We are not to repay evil for evil or reviling for reviling. Instead we are to bless those who mistreat us, and to repay insult with kindness. As Christians, we are not called to harm others but to do them good, not to curse but to bless. Then God rewards this type of behavior with a blessing.
In verses 10-12, Peter quotes Psa_34:12-16 a to confirm that God's blessing rests on the one who refrains from evil deeds and evil speech, and practices righteousness.
Read in context, it gives instruction on the Godly role for wives:
1 Peter 3:1-6New American Standard Bible (NASB) Godly Living3 In the same way, you wives, be submissive to your own husbands so that even if any of them are disobedient to the word, they may be won without a word by the behavior of their wives, 2 as they observe your chaste and respectful behavior. 3 Your adornment must not be merelyexternal-braiding the hair, and wearing gold jewelry, or putting on dresses; 4 but let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God. 5 For in this way in former times the holy women also, who hoped in God, used to adorn themselves, being submissive to their own husbands; 6 just as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord, and you have become her children if you do what is right without being frightened by any fear.1 Peter chapter 3 is a continuation of the instructions that the author of this epistle wished to give to Christians.
Verses 1-7 are concerned with the role of women. Women are told to obey and be in subjection to their husbands, who will return honour to them. Women are also warned against personal adornments and the wearing of gold, and to be chaste in their conversation.
Verses 18-22 contain a famous passage, in which the author says Jesus went down to hell to preach to the spirits in prison, and was resurrected and has gone into heaven.
Other verses contain injunctions about evil and righteousness.
Praise be to God that Jesus rose from the dead and we hope that we will join Him In heaven.
