President Obama is, and always has been, a centrist Democrat. That means he leans center-left on social issues (equal rights for women, minorities, gay people, etc), and center-right on issues like defense, the military, etc. He believes in the constitution, and he also believes the government should play a role in making the lives of Americans better.

The only people who believe there is a controversy are the "Birthers," who do not believe that President Obama was born in the United States, and who also believe that his father's country of birth (Kenya) somehow disqualifies President Obama. But since the 1890s, that is not how the Supreme Court has ruled, saying that if you were born here, you are in fact a natural-born citizen. Thus, since President Obama was born in the United States (Hawaii), he satisfies the requirements of being a "natural born citizen."
