25:1 These also are proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah King of Judah transcribed. 25:2 It is the glory of God to conceal a thing; but the glory of kings is to search a matter out. 25:3 The heaven for height, and the earth for depth, but the heart of kings is unsearchable. 25:4 Take away the dross from the silver, and a vessel may emerge for the refiner; (25:5) take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness. 25:6 Do not preen in the presence of the king, and do not stand in the place of great men; (25:7) for it is better that one will say to you: 'Come up here', than that you should be demoted in the presence of the prince, whom your eyes have seen. 25:8 Do not go forth hastily to an argument, lest you know not what to do in the end, when your fellow has shamed you. (25:9) Debate your cause with your fellow, but do not reveal the secret of another; (25:10) lest he who hears it revile you and your infamy never turn away.
Verse 1 - The scholars in the time of Hezekiah gathered certain proverbs of Solomon which had until then been separate from the scroll of Proverbs, and added them at his bidding.
Verse 2 - Certain Divine matters should not be fully revealed. Kings, however, have it as their duty to become informed of all goings-on, in order to maintain their governance.
Verse 3 - Heaven and earth may be estimated, but not the thoughts of kings, since their motivations can be fully known only to God.
Verse 4 and 5 - Just as a vessel's impurities make it inferior, society cannot remain stable if wickedness is ignored.
Verse 6, 7 and 8 - Should be self-explanatory.
Verse 9 and 10 - Don't us someone's private matters to back up your argument, since the listeners will despise you for it.
