The answer you seek is a bug called the Cicadas. I'm 36 years old and can remember clearly that my grandmother told me they were called July Fly's. As a child I would collect the live bug along with the shells that they crawled out of. They are in no way harmful to the human race, totally an amazing bug to play with!
