It shows you which sites are good or safe. A toolbar will be downloaded onto your browser whether its internet explorer or mozilla. If it turns red, sites not saef. If it's green, site is supposedly safe.
However, I have found this to not be accurate at times. You need to use your better judgment when browsing the web. One thing you never do is go on Google and search up free porn. Trust me.
Yes, McAFee Site Advisor is not an antivirus program.
If you have uninstalled McAfee Site Advisor as stated above, but you can still see "McAfee Site Advisor" folder at C:/Program Files, which means McAfee Site Advisor isn't completely uninstalled. What happens a lot is that the uninstall simply fails. Also, McAfee Site Advisor leaves files in your registry, and they need to be deleted too in order to complete the uninstall.

Sites with "aaa" in front of the name can be dangerous. For example aaascreensavers.com (very dangerous site with viruses). Be also careful with site with ontoplive which has got a prefix hxxp, instead a prefix http. Https sites can be trusted. But don't think that all sites with funny names are dangerous. If you want to be sure which site is safe, download WOT on mywot.com or Mcafee Site Advisor on siteadvisor.com. Both are free, but you can buy a better version of Mcafee Site Advisor with some extra options.
