You use a PC modem to connect to the internet. It will generally connect through to your Internet Service Provider (ISP).
It allows either one computer - or a group of computers which are served by the same router - to connect to other systems.
Its designed purpose is a) to send information outwards and b) to receive information inwards and to do both of those things at the same time.
More detail about what is sent and received
Your modem has to encode the information coming from your pc (or the router that is connected to several pcs) and then transmit it to your ISP. It also has to decode the information that it receives from your ISP for your pc or the router that is connected to several pcs.
It does the encoding and decoding by "modulating" and "de-modulating" one or more of several different signal frequency bands that are carried in the cable or wireless link connected to your ISP.
"Modulating" is a short word that radio and communications engineers use to mean "a technique to represent data to be encoded by modifying signals in one or more of several different frequency bands which are carried in a broadband cable or in a conventional telephone line or over a wireless link".
Thus the name "modem" is actually an acronym formed from the full name of the device, which is a "MODulator-and-DEModulator".
Your ISP has a communications server which contains the equivalent of many hundreds of modems. It must encode and decode all the links to users which are connected to it via both cable and wireless. During on-going periods of time the ISP serves all of its connected users virtually simultaneously, something which it can only do because of the very powerful computers it employs.
If nothing else is connected to the modem you can use a ethernet cable to connect the ps2 to the modem and the internet. If you also have a PC then you need to put a router between the modem and PC and also connect the PS2 to the router which will allow both the PC and PS3 to work off the same modem
MAC/PC/printer to router. Router to modem. Modem to wall/internet. Wired or wireless router is optional, same principle.
Nothing. They are both modems (MOdulator/DEModulator).
There should be no reason why a modem should be restarting your PC. If the device is abruptly restarting your PC then is is probably due to a driver problem. Make sure that you have all the latest patches installed for your computer and that your modem drivers are up to date.
try a null modem serial connection
No, just connect the cable to the cable modem and then connect the modem to the computer.
If for instance you have a PC connected to the internet with an ethernet cable at a cable modem you can unplug the ethernet cable to the PC at the modem and Plug in a ethernet cable from the PS3 to the modem and a connection to the internet is possible. If the PC and PS3 are close enough you can just unplug the PC ethernet cable at the PC and move it over to the PS3. The first time you do this you need to go to the PS3 network setting and auto set the network settings. When you are done using the PlayStation 3 you just unplug the ethernet cable for the PS3 from the modem and plug the PC cable back into the modem for the PC to go back online or switch the cable back if it was close enough. When you get tired of doing this just purchase a router and plug the PS3 and PC into the router and plug the router into the modem.
The device you are referring to is called a Modem.
yes as long as you can find the right driver files for that modem try www.driversguide.com
Dennis C. Hayes invented the PC modem. The objective of the PC modem was to enable computer users to connect to the Internet.
They can be a great deal of different. The speed of the connection depends on, among other things, the modem being used. Generally the modem in a 'phone is not as fast as the modem connection in a PC
No. You need to connect the ethernet cable to a modem or router. You can disconnect the PC ethernet cable from the modem and connect an ethernet cable from the Xbox 360 to the modem until you purchase a router.
