It will sound like it's going to start when you turn the key but it never does. Keep in mind that many other issues can give you the same effect of not starting.

How do you know if the timing belt is going out?

What I was told is that you look at the belt; if you see more than 7 "cracks" per inch, it is time to replace the timing belt. A timing belt can look perfectly fine and be ready to break. This is why they are replaced at a scheduled mileage or every 10 years no matter what they look like. So the bottom line is you cannot know when it needs replacing by just looking at it. Your owners manual will list when it needs replacing.

Why is a timing belt like a belt and pulley?

It is not like a belt and pulley. A timing belt is a belt and it fits on a pulley.

My protege makes a squeaky sound as I start driving?

2006 volkswagen jetta 2.5 has timing belt or chain?

The 2.5s have timing chains. Chains are much longer lasting and do NOT need to be replaced at 60-100k miles like a rubber belt would.

What would cause a pinging sound in the 2.3L engine in a 95 ranger The timing belt was just replaced Could it not be set right The truck feels like it has less power than it did before the belt was r?

Sounds like the timing is off just a bit ur getting the start of detonation which makes the pinging noise ur hearing. That is the most logical (as or if ) it was not pinging before the timing belt was replaced.

My carb throws fire it does not idle?

Check Timing First Sounds Like That Is Your Problem. If it turns out to not be the ignition timing, it could also be the camshaft timing. If your camshaft is mistimed it means that your timing chain or timing belt has slipped and must be replaced.

What can it be now Engine was running on the highway then it died. Engine will crank over and it has fuel but no spark Recently replaced spark plugs wires dist. cap rator and coil?

To me, it sounds like a timing belt (chain) needs replaced but are you sure there is no spark? If it just quit on you w/out notice, tunrs over but will not start-you likely have to replace the timing belt. Same thing happened to me- Toyato Tacoma w/about 162k miles on it.

When does the timing chain in a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee have to be replaced?

This is like asking "when should I have the cylinders reground or the oil pump replaced. A timing chain is not like a timing belt in that it is not subject to 80,000 mile replacement. So, keep your oil changed every 3000 miles and drive on.Good luck !!!

What is the procedure for changing timing belt on 1999 four runner 5V2-FE engine?

Why does car squeal when starting and won't start?

This problem sounds like a loose or worn alternator belt. The belt needs to be tightened or replaced and this should fix it.

Can an overtightened timing belt cause a knock?

I do not believe they do. An overtightened timing belt will just be noisy. Kind of like a squeeky belt.
