The members of communities are the primary source for that community's mores (mor-ays); that is, the common practices of that society or culture. Mores exist outside of laws. They can be thought of as the collective conscience of a community, almost its identity in extreme cases.

Consider the microcosm of the Amish or Mennonite communities. The Amish and Mennonites are generally closed to outsiders (although Mennonites are less restrictive). they exist within themselves. These communities may be located within or near secular or non-sect communities, they take little from them in the way of physical and especially spiritual things. They have their own rules and customs. They have their own mores and practices. Little of the world outside of the communities affects them or has for more than two hundred years.
