Assess location and severity. X-Ray, CT Scan, MRI. Set it if possible, operate if necessary, cast or splint is necessary. If you don't treat it correctly, it may never heal correctly, you might get a dangerous infection, or you might lose a lot of blood inside.

It most likely depends on whether you have to have surgery or not. In my case, I did not and just started running again with my doctor's blessing after 12 weeks. I have also since read online that the average humerus fracture takes 12 weeks to heal.

Chronic means having a problem a certain length of time. So, a chronic fracture means that you may have had a fracture months before you realized it and treatment began. It can also mean that your fracture is not healing in the time that the doctor thought it would.
