Note the link below. The picture there contains images of all branches' Good Conduct Medals. Note also, that those who earned the GCM during WW2 in the USAAF (the USAF did not exist before 18 September 1947) would have received the US Army version (authorized by Congress by Executive Order 8809, 28 June 1941).
Good Conduct Medal was created in 1896.
Reserve Good Conduct Medal was created in 1939.
if you go to your virtual and click awards and decs....anything that has the word medal in it is worn on the mess dress. Good conduct medal, army accomedation medal, national defense medal, air force achievement medal, etc.
The award of the US Good Conduct Medal has NOTHING to do with overeas service, therefore the placement of "overseas bars" on the Medal is WRONG.
I have never heard of a Distinguished Conduct Star Medal. During WW2, the Army issued these medals (and many other possibilities) Good Conduct Medal - given for 12 months good conduct Distinguished Service Medal Distinguished Service Cross The only medals with "star" in the name were: Silver Star Medal Bronze Star Medal Hope that helps. Now you can search for them on internet and see which one you have.

a "V" on a US Medal indicates valor. A Good Conduct Medal requires no valor.

No, the Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal cannot be worn with the Army Active Duty Good Conduct Medal. Each medal is earned for different accomplishments and periods of service, and they are not meant to be worn together.

David William MacBrayne
He received the Good Conduct Medal (GCM) for his Army service.
Its simple, stay out of any trouble for 3 years and then you are awarded this medal.
There is no specific person depicted on the back of the USMC Good Conduct Medal. The back of the medal features an eagle perched on an anchor with the words "FOR PROFICIENCY HONOR FIDELITY" inscribed around it.
It indicates a second award.
