A heater core is nothing more than a radiator located so that heat from the engine coolant [sometimes refered to a anti-freeze] can be extracted to heat the passenger compartment.
Therefore, a heater core looks like a small, thick radiator. One difference is that the vehicle cooling radiators are generally very thin in relation to the height and width dimensions, while the heater core is much "thicker" in relation to its other dimensions.
The heater core will be located inside a plenum chamber, usually inside the passenger compartment, in or below the dashboard at the right front passengers feet.
The plenum chamber will be a boxlike structure, generally with rounded corners, made of dark, or black fiberglass.
Not very often, the heater core may be in a plenum, forward of the cowl [or firewall], in the engine compartment.j3h.
