While it would be possible to build a hybrid car using a diesel engine instead of the gasoline engine, I do not believe any manufacturers are doing it. This may be because of problems with reliably restarting a diesel engine after stopping it that don't happen with gasoline engines, but I'm not certain.
The check engine light does not generally have anything to do with the check oil light. The oil light just indicated it is time to change the oil, while the engine light indicates a problem.

start with engine off. press and hold that speedometer resetter while starting engine, check engine light will flash a few times then disappear.
