The Liberty Nickel is 21.2mm in diameter, weighs 5 grams and is composed of 75% copper and 25% nickel. On the obverse side [heads] there is a head of Lady Liberty facing left with the date below it. 13 stars arch over the head along the rim of the coin. The reverse [tails] has the well known "V" in the center of it surrounded by a wreath. The words " United States of America" arch over the top of the "V" along the rim of the coin. In 1883 the motto "E Pluribus Unum" arched below the "V" along the rim of the coin on the first 5,479,519 coins. Later in 1883 the design was changed and the rest of the coins minted had this motto arched over the top of the "V" but below the " United States of America" and the Wood "CENTS" took it's place at the bottom of the coin. Mint marks appear in 1912 and were located on the reverse side of the coin between the "U" in "UNITED" and the "C" in "CENTS" in the lower left area of the design.
It was known as the "V" Nickel (or Liberty Head Nickel) the obverse featured a personification of Liberty, the reverse had a wreath with a large "V" in it (the Roman numeral for 5)

It's only worth 5 cents, but it's not a Liberty nickel. Liberty nickels were made from 1883 to 1912. Your nickel, like all US coins, has the word Liberty on it so that's not anything distinctive. It's actually called a Jefferson nickel because it features a portrait of the 3d president.
Liberty Head nickel was created in 1883.
