This is really hard without a wiring diagram but it goes like this. The light is grounded at the lamp or bulb. From the socket where the bulb is, the wire goes to the MLPS or PRNDL which is on the side of the transmission by the shift lever. Manual Lever Position Switch or Park reverse neutral drive low,PRNDL, is an half round plastic switch that tells the computer what gear has been selected. When its in reverse, the power for the light comes from the computer to the bulb throught the switch. This can be better traced with a wiring diagram.
