Go to Kragen.com and search for speed sensor. You will find a picture of it.
The output sensor looks like a AA battery with wires leading into it. It monitors the speed of the motor and allows for real time adjustments as needed.
Depends on whether its automatic or stick.

The VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) is located in the drivers side, back end (tail shaft housing) of the transmission. It is where they used to have the speedometer cable attached but now it's electronic.
