There is no starter relay on an Escort. The main battery positive cable goes directly to the starter. A small wire with a clip on it marked s goes to the solenoid. The main battery current to the starter is supplied with this solenoid.
On the order of a small coffee can. The best way to know what the automotive part you are trying to locate looks like is to go to an auto parts store and have them bring the part out and show it to you. Then you will know exactly what you are looking for.
It's the bump on the side of the starter.
Like a cylinder with a smaller cylinder on to of it. It will be sittind sideways
If it is like my '86 Samurai there is no starter relay. It uses a starter solenoid on the top of the starter to pass battery to starter motor when the solenoid is activated via the key switch.
Bottom, passenger side of motor.
I had the same problem on my 1988 and would have to leave it on. On that motor, there is a heat shield that surrounds the starter and if it is not there, when the motor heats up it will transfer that heat to the starter simulating a bad battery/starter problem. Once it cools down it starts fine. Start looking from there or get a remote starter (like I did) so you can leave it running when you run into somewhere fast. The clicking noise you can hear is the starter solenoid clicking into place. If the starter motor does not turn the engine immediately, it is probably the best place to look. it sounds like the starter motor is faulty.
starter motors are round with a wheel at one end for the belt. It has a plug for wiring to be plugged into

The heater blower on a 97 Ford Escort station wagon is a small electric motor about 5 inches in diameter and it has a squirrel cage fan on the end of the motor shaft.
i have a 98 escort zx-2 that I'm in the middle of swapping the motor out of. it should be right under the intake manifold. assuming its like mine, that intake manifold should be obvious, its under that, somewhat closer the the drivers side, facing that way too.
Where is the starter and what does it look like on 2002 f250 ford diesel?
If it is like the ( 1996 ) Ford Escort : The BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR is also the CLUTCH FLUID RESERVOIR
The make is the manufacturer, like Ford or Suzuki. The model is the particular vehicle like a Ford Escort.
The Mercury Tracer is same model. The Ford Escort and the Ford Tempo are 2 completely different cars. The Ford Tempo's windshield is going to be too big for the Escort, if I'm not mistaken.
make sure the battery is fully charged...if it is...it sounds like a bad starter selenoid and or starter or bad connection
It takes the same starter as any pickup, etc, with the same motor. About 4 inches across and 7 ish inches long. Looks like a smaller narrow coffee can. Just follow the large red cable from the battery down to the starter.
sounds like your fuel pump is gettin hot
Check the starter relay Check/Replace the cables going to the starter. It sounds like there is insuffient voltage and current going to the starter. Did you replace the starter? It is possible that the teeth are misaligned during re-installation. Did you foget some washers or shims? The selenoid could be bad.
