Turtles technically aren't born, they are laid as eggs, underground on a beach. When a turtle hatches from an egg, it comes out from under the sand and slowly makes it's way to the water. This early part of a turtles life is considered the most dangerous, as usually there will be birds waiting to eat the baby turtles.

After a sea turtle hatches, they dig out of the sand. They start trying to make it to the ocean, without being eaten.
