Who worked to abolish slavery in England in the 1800s?

William Wilberforce played a significant role in the abolishment of slavery in England during the 1800s. He created petitions signed by hundreds of thousands of brits who believed in the abolishment of slavery, this petition was monumental in Wilberforce's success. Women also helped the abolishment of slavery in England. They worked a long side Wilberforce encouraging him to continue his work and demand more rights for these slaves. These women were the people who made the abolishment of slavery happen as fast as it did because they weren't content with "gradual abolition" which is what the house of commons granted Wilberforce.

What are the similarities between the french and british movement towards the abolishment of slavery?

A similiarity, I think, would be that they both moved towards ending the slave trade itself before the actual Slavery in the British and French colonies (: That's only one though :$ Sorry.

Why was abolishment of slavery bad?

Most people view slavery as a bad thing, and if you do, then having it abolished is a good thing. Abolished means destroyed, put an end to. So having slavery abolished wasn't a bad thing for the African Americans, or for the people who believed that it should be abolished. Though many of the people who owned slaves might not think it was good because they would then have to do the work that their slaves used to do for them, or they would have to pay their slaves/servants.
