It monitors the exhaust for the proper air to fuel mixture of 14.7 to 1. It sends a signal to the computer to add or subtract fuel to keep this air/fuel mixture as close as it can be for maximum performance and fuel economy. All 02 sensors on all vehicles perform this function.
It measures the amount of hydrocarbons in the exhaust and reports the difference between the readings from the pre and post catalytic sensors to give tuning information to the engine control computer, adjustments are made to timing and fuel based on the readings.
p0141 is for the sensor behind the catalytic converter.
The 2000 Grand did not use the 318. The O2 sensors are in the exhaust on either side of the catalytic onverter.
Usually only one wire there, but some are heated O2 sensors, that wire will have 12 volts while ignition is on.
It is on the exhaust pipe close to the manifold. Simply unplug and unscrew it.
paste this into your browser...i could not get the link box to take.. but this should ansewr the question on the o2 sensor

You should have 2 O2 Sensors, one in front of the Catalytic converter, and on after. You shuold see both by just looking under the Jeep

I have a '96 jeep grand Cherokee and mine was recalled for a faulty O2 sensor and catalytic convertor. That might be the problem, because after getting those fixed, i get 15 mpg instead of 13.
In the exhaust pipe.
That is the O2 sensor in the exhaust closest to the engine.
