A pregnancy blood test shows the level of the hormone HCG in the blood. There is quite a wide variation of normal in non-pregnant women so an early test may come into the 'high normal' range which would be 'inconclusive'. A second test a few days later showing a significant increase would be 'conclusive'. Peeing on a stick is much cheaper and just as accurate, and you are the first to know the result.

When a blood test comes out inconclusive it means that they think you are pregnant but you could be miscarrying. When I was pregnant with my son, the test came out inconclusive so my doctor said I had to retest in a few days to make sure the hcg levels went up and not down. They went up and my son is now 3 years old. Unless you are having bad cramping and bleeding I would assume you are pregnant.
