So yes turning off the AC does help the motor, There is another factor that you must know the AC should be run occasionally to eliminate AC troubles later on. If the engine is small on a very hot day climbing a long hill it should be shut off for the climb if the engine still gets very hot then turn on the heater to get rid of some of the engine heat don't forget to open the windows while roasting but that will help the engine if running hot.
