In the Islamic month of Ramadan, all adult, sane, healthy Muslims fast from dawn (first light) until sunset. This is a total fast: Muslims do not eat or drink anything during this time. (Smoking and marital intimacy are also prohibited.)
Another AnswerMuslims don't fast during Ramadan; they simply don't eat or drink from dawn 'till dusk. During the hours of darkness, they spend a great deal of time eating and drinking as they celebrate with friends and family. In fact, many Muslims put on weight during Ramadan. Furthermore, in the Middle East, dusk comes very early, so the day is short, so the so-called period of fasting is very short and the working day is reduced, and foreigners aren't allowed to eat and drink in public. So 'fasting' isn't as hard as it might seem!

Her role as woman or wife during the month of Ramadan should be the same as woman and/or wife role out of Ramadan month. The only exception is that she should break fasting during the menstruation (period) and to compensate for these not fasted days after end of Ramadan but before the next year Ramadan. Also, if she is pregnant or feeding her child and can't fast from health point of view, then she is entitled to break fasting and compensate for these days as soon as convenient to her.
