I had the same problem with my 1996 V6 Avenger. After a while the light will just stay on. It could be any number of things causing the problem. The first thing is to take it and have someone hook it up to a computer and get a read out. Depending on where you go, it can cost up to $100. Usually, they will deduct it from the bill if you let them fix it. Every time my mechanic would fix something, it would last for a week or two and then the flashing would start over again. (The manufacturer couldn't help them with any information.) After several years, a couple of thousand dollars, a lot of new parts including a new computer, I finally took it to the dealership (who hated to see me coming and told me so!). They flushed the fuel injector twice and it has been fine ever since. My biggest problem now is I just turned 81,000 and the transmission is starting to act up for the third time.
