Just a dry nose does not mean the cat may be sick. A dry nose is common in cats. If there were other symptoms with a dry nose the cat may be ill. Look for lathargy, pale gums, irregular breathing, things of this sort to consider the cat may be ill.
My sister has 3 cats and their noses are dry. It just means that they have not had a drink or have licked their nose in about a half hour or so. It does not always mean that the cats are sick! ~Me!!

∙ 12y agoDry skin can be caused by a variety of things in a cat. It can be from lacking in fatty acids and oils in their food, lack of grooming, dehydration, or possibly due to a more serious health problem. Be sure to visit a vet if the skin problem does not clear up after a while.
Here are a few things that help clear up dry skin:
Salmon oil and Evening Primrose oil are two oils that a cat can benefit greatly from. You can also add a weekly treat of oily fish such as sardines or mackerel (best in spring water), or even scraps of plain fatty meat (such as skin from a chicken) either raw or cooked, depending on what your cat prefers, as this will have the same effect.
Salmon oil contains omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids. It is the omega 3 fatty acids that are so valuable in salmon oil. Salmon oil helps improve coat and skin quality and lubricate joints, which an elderly cat may benefit greatly from. It is advisable to use this instead of Cod Liver oil, as this contains a high level of Vitamin A which a cat can overdose on if fed too much.
Evening Primrose oil also contains vitamins and fatty acids that promote healthy supple skin and soft, glossy fur much like Salmon oil.
Both these oils can be found in most health shops and can be added to the cat's meal a couple of times a week. Only a few drops are needed each time.
Another Answer I've never bathed my cat, but my friend in NY does. She got some of our gentle doggie soap and said it worked like a charm. Rinsed really clean and has made a huge difference for her cat.
It's pretty common because dogs/cats cannot tolerate the commercial soaps that we tend to use on them. You can buy a "pet friendly, gentle" moisturising liquid soap in the pet store, but they all contain SLS or SLES.
Start using a handmade and/or homemade goat milk soap with as few unnecessary ingredients as possible, ie, oatmeal and honey or a plain soap bar. Stay away from fragrance oils.
Use a humidifier if you have one, winter is killer on your skin just like it is on your pet's.

∙ 14y agoLet the dog out to go to the bathroom. Let him in and wet the nose with a few drops of water. Be sure not to get the water in the nose. If the dog is sleepy or asleep, that would be a main cause.
