What does it mean to be ignored by a friend after having regular communication for several months?

You didn't say if this was a long distance friend or if you were phoning each other on your cells, emailing, Iming, etc. If you see them quite often during the week or talk on the phone a lot then phone them or email them and ask them what is up. Ask why you haven't heard from them. Many times it's not about you, but they may be having problems of their own or are busy. Some friends will just drop out of sight for many reasons. Communication is everything so it is part of your responsibility to let your friend know you care and ask what is wrong and if something is you should be there for them as a friend.

There could be a variety of reasons but that person is the only one that knows the truth and in order to know that you should really try and ask them what the problem is without being overbearing or needy. Without knowing the situation I can only speculate a few scenarios: they may be have been busy lately, they may have been developing stronger feelings for you and needs a break, they may have felt your friendship is too much, they may not have been the friend that you thought they were or you may have perceived your friendship as more than they did, they may be involved in a serious relationship that is taking up their time, they may be going through something personal and dealing with that, they could have an addiction(s) problem, or they could just not be interested in a friendship with you anymore.
