It sounds like you have a faulty micro switch on the brake pedal.
are you sure it is the brake lights and not the tail lights. if it is the brake lights you most likely have a short some where. go to a auto eletrican It is the brake lights which turn on. Short in the switch or the wiring?
Brake Lights do not turn offUsually this is caused by the physical position of the brake light switch not being adjusted properly.
manualy lift brake pedal to see if they go out. if so check spring at pedal
it's somthing under the brake pedal, it's sticking and just needs to be loosened. you'll also find when you press the pedal in, the brake lights will go off.
Under the brake pedal is a brake light switch that when you press the pedal it hits it and makes your lights come on..sometimes when they get weak the pedal depresses them simply from the weight of the pedal and they stay on..Have a friend get inside the truck and pull UP on the brake pedal as you look at the lights..if the brake lights go off when they pull up on it..then it is that switch under the brake pedal
The brake lights will stay on if the switch is either out of adjustment or damaged. Pull up on the brake pedal to see if it will go out, if it does, you might be able to get by just adjusting the position of the brake light switch. BTW, it's on the brake pedal mechanism, under the dashboard.
The sensor states "check brake lights and brake linings" is this something I can do or must it go to the shop?
If you replaced the brake switch it sounds like you put the new one on backwards.
I have a 03 gran prix and my brake lights doesn't come on when I go to brake
There is a switch down at the brake pedal, It's most likely bad. This is true. There is a switch under the brake pedal that probably needs to be adjusted or replaced. I have this same problem in my 1998 mercury villager. I have not replaced or adjusted the switch...not sure the cost or how hard it is to do. However, I have found that once you are in park, if the brake lights do not go off, I press down hard on the brake pedal and the lights go off.
go to a mechanic
The brake light is controlled by a relay switch. If the relay switch is bad the brake lights will stay on. The brake light switch simply plugs in and out. Unplug the brake light switch until you can replace it.
