I have a 1996 and saw the light symbol also looked it up in the book and found it was idicating the DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS are on. To "permanently" disable them, find the fuse labled DRL and pull it. It should be in the fuse panel under the hood near the PCM. To reactivate them, reinsert the fuse in the DRL slot. One can just step down on the parking brake lever one click, this will not engage the parking brake but will turn off the DRL.
