It just means there is some very intense convection (rising air) occurring. This can happen in some of the stronger mid-latitude cyclones when there are incredible amounts of energy and dynamics in the atmosphere, but it can also occur in intense lake effect snow bands, which are a different animal. This type of snow is driven by instability generated by the difference in the lake and air temperature, and it can persist for a while and drop a whole lot of snow quickly.

What is a thunder lightning outcome?

A thunder lightning outcome refers to the simultaneous occurrence of thunder and lightning during a thunderstorm. The thunder is the sound produced by the rapid expansion of heated air surrounding a lightning bolt, while the lightning is the visible discharge of electricity between clouds or between a cloud and the ground. A thunder lightning outcome is a common occurrence during thunderstorms.

Is it dangerous to light a candle while there's lightning and thunder?

no. only things that are metal are dandrous in a thunder storm

What is thunder like for pilots when lightning occurs near them while flying?

Yes, we can

Why does thundering occur with out lightning?

While lightning produces very high temperatures, the amount of air it heats is fairly small. In most cases a bolt of lightning is a few miles away, too far away to feel the heat. People have felt the heat from lightning, but only when it struck dangerously close.

Do you see lightning before you hear thunder?

Yes.Lightning reaches our eyes before thunder reaches our ears because light travels faster than sound.Light travels at the rate of 186,282 miles per second, while sound is much slower, 1,087 feet, or about 1/5 of a mile, per second. You can tell how far away a storm is by counting the seconds between the lightning flash and the clap of thunder, every 5 seconds between the two equals one mile!Lightning causes the thunder, so it actually has to precede the thunder. If you are close to the lightning, they may seem to occur simultaneously. Since light travels faster than sound, the thunder will always lag behind the lightning.Light moves at 299 million metres per second. Sound moves at 340 metres per second (at sea level in air). When lightning occurs, the light and the creation of the sound occur at the same time and place. Thunder is due to the rapid expansion of superheated air which the lightning causes. The flash of light (lightning) arrives first because light waves move at roughly a million times faster than sound waves. By counting the seconds between flash and sound (assuming the storm is not so violent that lightning flashes and thunder claps cannot be paired off), you can determine how close it was to you.In the English system, each 5 seconds difference is about a mile away. In the metric system, every 3 seconds is about a kilometer. Differences in elevation can make this imprecise. If the flash and sound are simultaneous, the source of the lightning is very close, so you might want to go inside immediately and if possible, not touch anything connected to the house's electrical, plumbing, or wired telephone systems. If you are outdoors, stay out from under trees and away from tall objects and metal fences. Keep a low profile, even if it means ducking into a ditch.Remember that electricity seeks the path of least resistance to ground, and the rain that accompanies the lightning enhances that effect, so stay dry and indoors - and avoid conductive systems as described above.

If the time between when you see lightning and hear thunder is increasing the storm is moving away from you Why is this true?

The speed of light is 186,000 miles per second, while the speed of sound is about 750 miles per hour. When you see a flash of lightning, the light gets to you in, for all practical purposes, "no time at all". But the sound of the thunder takes about 6 seconds per mile. So if the average time between the lightning and the thunder is increasing, that tells us that the average distance to the storm is also increasing.

Who is the god of lightning?

In Greek mythology the god Zeus was the lord of lightning and the sky. The Romans hold that Jupiter was the god of lightning and all things of the sky. In the Norse mythology, Thor is associated with lightning. Raijin or Raiden (as featured in the game Mortal Kombat) is the god of lightning and thunder in Japanese mythology. The Mayans held that Spaciouswas the god of lightning, while the Egyptians bowed to Set(Seth) as the god who controlled lightning.Zeus if you're talking Greek mythology and Jupiter if you're talking Roman Mythology. Also, the Vikings believed in Thor.

Can there be thunder and lightning during a snowstorm?

Yes. It generally only occurs in the strongest snowstorms and is a little more common in lake effect snow. It can only occur when there is large amounts of instability generating intense convection in the atmosphere. Heavy lake effect snow bands are known for thunder and lightning because lake effects snow owes its existence to the intense instability generated by air-water differences.

What is the ancient source for Mjolnir being a meteorite?

Mjolnir was Thor's Hammer, Thor was the God of Thunder and Lightning - thunder was the sound of his chariot and horses, while lightning was the sparks from his hammer.I am not aware of any source saying it is a meteorite. The lightning part could fit, as well as the hammer's power to even "level mountains". But mythology also says that the hammer returned to Thor's hand after it was thrown, which wouldn't.Some more info on Mjolnir in the related link.

What to do when it storming when you at an outdoors swimming pool and you are lifeguarding?

If it is just rain, you stay on your tower and guard the swimmers. If there is thunder & lightning, you clear the pool and wait 20 minutes from the last display of thunder & lightning before letting the swimmers back in the water. It is best if the swimmers are not standing on a wet pool deck while waiting for the all-clear to re-enter the pool.
