Most modern radiators serve two purposes: to cool the engine, and to cool automatic Transmission Fluid. Coolant can get anywhere it touches, and a few places it doesn't. Coolant can get into the engine's combustion chambers. You'll note white exhaust smoke if that's the case. Coolant can get into the crankcase. You'll note your engine oil has a milky appearance if this is the case. Coolant can get into the automatic transmission. You'll note your ATF has a milky pink color if that's the case. In short, it doesn't mean anything definite. It could be any of the three things listed above, as long as you're SURE it's not leaking. Watch for leaks not only on the ground, but in the engine compartment, too. Also, keep the radiator level full ... see if you can tell how much coolant is being lost. If you have coolant in your engine oil or ATF, GET THIS FIXED NOW ... your engine is at risk. You want this coolant loss to be a leak, trust me.

Your coolant light comes on for about 1 min in morning when you first start your car. Does this mean that there is a bigger problem then just adding coolant?

If you are having to add coolant, then you have a leak. The leak may be minor or it may be serious is the leak is internal, as in a blown head gasket.

Your truck does not overheat but can I still have a cracked block?

Yes you can. A cracked block does not necessarily mean the car will overheat. If a block is cracked at a coolant jacket then coolant will leak out and the car will overheat if the leak is bad enough. If the leak is not very major or if the crack is at a point that does not have a coolant jacket then it will not overheat. A cracked block could leak oil, compressed air/fuel, coolant, or nothing at all and still be cracked. -R. Mesyef

What does it mean when I am using a lot of antifreeze?

It could be a number of things. If the car is producing a sweet smelling white exhaust smoke then the coolant is entering the combustion chamber and burning. This could be the head gasket, cracked cylinder walls, cracked cylinder head, or a clogged cooling system. If the coolant is dripping from anywhere other than the coolant resevoir overflow, there is a leak from the cooling system. Easiest way to find out is to have the cooling system pressure tested.

What does it mean when overflow tank empties itself?

It means that you have a coolant leak. You need to have the system pressure tested for leaks.

Does leaking coolant mean the head gaskets has gone?

Not necessarily have system pressure tested to determine the source of the leak

Can coolant levels reducing mean head gasket is blown?

Yes it can, unless there is a small leak somewhere else.

You most likely have a leak or your car is overheating. If you are smelling it in the car then in all probability the heater core is leaking.
