Not sure what you mean by "idle funny". If you mean the engine revs up and down while it is idling, the problem is most likely a dirty/clogged air filter.
Rpms, revolutions per minute.
Turn the throttle, revs go up. Let to, revs go down.

There are several reasons why your car may be overheating. Check the thermostat to be sure it isn't stuck. If the car revs up and down, the timing may need to be adjusted.
