It probably means that you aren't going to support him with other needs, like money, good job, etc. whatever he thinks; rather than love and special bonds. Maybe he sees something special in you, but is giving you a little warning as to how you have been acting, or in his mind, you should be focusing on what really matters in life. It sounds like he really loves you, but sees some flaws. I don't really know the whole picture, but it sounds like he is not breaking up rather wanting to keep the relationship healthy and together. I hope that helped, and doesn't make anything worse. If anyone else wants to comment more, and correct me that would be appreciated.
