It either means that your computer doesn't have a physical soundcard or you don't have the drivers installed. If the reason is the latter one, install the drivers and connect the speakers to it and you should have sound.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It might also mean that you do have a good working device and the proper drivers for it, but your comp decides not to recognize it for some reason, usually incompatibilities with another device/driver.
Looking around I found my solution in the Nvidia forums. What worked for me (hopefully works for you), is I went into the computer BIOS (the 'Setup' option when you restart) and changed the Onboard Audio setting from Auto to Enabled. I had read that you might need to change it the other way around, in some cases Disable it. It all depends on what caused the incompatibility with what. Good luck.
It could be that your computer is referring to itself when it says "this device."
You need to install drivers for your soundcard and then set it as default audio device from the control panel.
You need to install the drivers for the sound card your computer has installed in it.
A hard ware device is not available on the computer to start the game.
Go to the control panel and troubleshoot it.
This are the different audio streams, on a DVD there can be different Audiostreams for example the language stream in English represents audio 1, spanish audio 2 french audio 3 and German audio 4 and so on.

you have to go to you device and the tab that says applications from there all you have to do is unclick the check box that says sync.
Just try to open the audio device into coputer panel and then adjust the volume of sound, check some prompt or information if there is requirements to add and set up some device. and also consult the technical support for hardware problem. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A possible cause might be device/driver conflicts. You might have everything working and ready to go, but your comp decides not to load your sound hardware or loads the incorrect device/driver. Go to your comp BIOS (hold down whatever key you need to enter 'Setup' when you restart). Switch the Onboard Audio setting to another setting. What setting you need depends on what you want to load/what's causing the conflict. Good luck, I found this solution in the Nvidia forums and it worked for me.
